Action Hampshire – Embedded Researcher pitch

Interest in climate resilience

Action Hampshire are a membership organisation supporting community, voluntary and social enterprise organisations across Hampshire. We believe climate resilience activities should involve the active engagement of communities and neighbourhoods. As the chair of Hampshire’s Rural Forum, we are particularly interested in climate resilience activities for rural communities.

Our Hampshire Homes Hub work supporting community-led housing is one area where Action Hampshire has existing experience engaging with communities around climate resilience issues. We also have a small project relating to energy efficiency and fuel poverty.

Motivation for being involved in the scheme

We have a diverse portfolio of activities, from supporting community-owned buildings to running a communities against cancer project and lots of things inbetween. Our primary focus is supporting communities and people to help themselves, and to advocate for the role of the charity and voluntary sector and social enterprises. We are interested in this opportunity as it would be the chance to promote community-led approaches to climate resilience, and to bring a new perspective into our organisation.

Ideas for research topics or knowledge brokering activities

We are interested in working with a researcher on any projects relating to community-led/participatory approaches. Our strong connections with rural communities may be an area to explore, equally our work on community-led housing is very relevant. As chairs of the Hampshire Leadership Forum, we have strong relationships across the county and beyond and would be able to connect the researcher with community organisations. Our hope is that the relationship would lead to research that supports the activities of the voluntary, community and social enterprise (VCSE) sector in Hampshire and beyond, and to identify collaboratively with the researcher some ideas for engagement with the VCSE sector, such as workshops, trainings, etc during the research period.
